Wonderful summer of bowling over
The 26th annual American Airlines Bowling Spectacular drew to a ?wonderful? conclusion over the weekend with winners in each division presented with numerous trophies and various other awards at Warwick Lanes.
This year?s tournament, spanning nine weeks, saw newcomer Kevin Wade (738) clinch the handicap division while Rochelle Harvey (725) and Anthony Smith (723) finished second and third respectably.
For his efforts Wade was presented with one of the tournament?s distinctive trophies, a round-trip airline ticket to any city within continental USA, Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean and an American Airlines gift voucher.
Additional prize recipients included Michelle Simons (717), Karen Simmons (688), Marilyn Saunders (685), Vernelle Harvey (681) and Ruth Lewis (680), while Smith (296), Harvey (277) and Wade (268) each received additional high game awards.
Meanwhile, Smith (630) managed to go two better in the scratch division in walking away with top honours while Renelda Bean (610) placed second and Mike McCallum (596) third.
Other prize-winners in the division were Smith (265), Jackie Miller (208) and Bean (222).
In all, a total of 59 finalists competed in the handicap division and 50 in the scratch division.
This year?s tournament honoured Helena Rawlins and Howard Richardson for their contributions over many years to the sport of bowling in Bermuda. On hand to present participants with awards was Claudette Ford, sales manager for American Airlines.
