<Bz54>Woods: 'It was pathetic'

ORLANDO, Florida (Reuters) — Tiger Woods, frustrated with his entire game, tumbled out of the lead after running up a double-bogey seven early in the second round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational yesterday. The world number one, bidding for a fifth title at the Bay Hill Club, found water off the tee at the par-five sixth before carding a three-over-par 73 on a difficult, blustery day.

Tied for the overnight lead after opening with a sparkling 64, Woods also rattled up three bogeys and two birdies to finish at three-under 137, six strokes behind pacesetting American Rocco Mediate.

“I hit some of the worst God-awful shots you’ve ever seen today,” the 31-year-old American told reporters. “It was pathetic.

“My takeaway, my down swing, my back swing, my club selection, the mind process, you name it. I did everything wrong today. The brain wasn’t good.

“I broke 80, that’s about the only thing. I struggled all day. I didn’t drive it well at all and I had no touch on the greens. It was so frustrating out there. At least I’m still in contention, at least I still have a shot at it this weekend,” he added with a deep sigh.

Watched by his pregant wife Elin, Woods bogeyed two of the first four holes, missing the green to the right at the par-three second and failing to sink a five-foot par putt at the fourth after finding the left rough off the tee.

Although he picked up his first stroke at the par-four fifth, where he rolled in a 12-footer, he hooked his tee shot into the lake guarding the sixth fairway on the way to his ugly seven.

Out in three-over 38, the 12-times major winner birdied the 12th after hitting a superb wedge approach to two feet but slipped back with a three-putt bogey at the 206-yard 14th.
