Wounded Village look to rebound

With hardly time to lick their wounds after Sunday's 3-2 Friendship Trophy loss to PHC, league champions North Village are preparing for another trip to the `carpet' as they take on Dandy Town in this Sunday's FA Cup final.

Before last weekend's defeat, Scott Morton's side were poised to capture the remaining two jewels in the coveted triple crown.

But despite the setback, Village coach Morton says his team have accepted the result, assessed the video tape and are looking forward to Sunday's clash with the Hornets.

"Basically my team was more disappointed with the way they played last Sunday," he said. "We didn't play up to our full potential. Collectively as a team, we made a lot of individual errors and certain team leaders didn't play their role as leaders.

"So when you have that sort of combination, it's going to lead to a downfall. However, it still remained for the other players to step up their responsibilities on that day."

Runners-up last year to Devonshire Colts in the FA Cup, Morton said that the loss to PHC was now being viewed as an incentive, not as a setback, for the players to get it right against Town who themselves will be looking to give outgoing coach Andrew Bascome the ideal farewell gift.

"Judging from last night's training session, that loss has really sunk in, along with the fact that we didn't do what we should have," added Morton. "We also viewed Sunday's match on video tape, so the players got to see where they made errors. The camera doesn't lie. They saw for themselves some of the things that I was talking about."

Meanwhile, at St.John's Field, the injury bug continues to plague Town as star forward Darron (Duke) Simons and veteran defender Lloyd Christopher are both engaged in a frantic race to regain match fitness in time for Sunday's season-ending showdown.
