Youngsters heading to US soccer camp

A local group of 25 young footballers head off to Raleigh in North Carolina tomorrow to take part in a week-long camp under the direction of former Nigerian international Sam Owoh.

Owoh is the current coordinator of the Premier Soccer Academy and head coach of highly-ranked Enloe High School in North Carolina.

?Overseas tours and soccer camps help expose our youth players to a wider range of talents and higher standards of facilities and commitments to the game. And they have sought this opportunity with the hope of taking their soccer experience to the next level,? stated Troy Lewis, coaching director at First Division side Social Club.

The touring party consists of youth players between the ages of seven and 14 from Dandy Town, North Village, PHC, Somerset, Devonshire Cougars and Social Club, Lewis explained.

In addition to the tour, Social Club have established an initiative locally, including their own camp, dubbed ?Set the Target, Meet the Goal? which is geared towards revitalising the club?s football programme.

?One offspring is the End Of Summer Soccer Camp where the objective is to have players from various clubs and schools come together for the love of football,? Lewis added.

Participants in the camp will be taught the fundamentals of the game and will receive lectures from former players and other prominent members of the community.

?Our goal is to place emphasis on a variety of life skills as well as other various activities and create an atmosphere which will enhance the skills and abilities of our youth and encourage camaraderie in a stimulating and fun environment,? added Lewis.

The camp runs from August 29 to September 2 and is open to boys and girls between the ages of seven and 14 from all clubs.
