Zebras gunning for final rematch

PHC Zebras can set up a Friendship Trophy final rematch with North Village with victory over Martonmere Cup champions Dandy Town in tonight?s semi-final at Somerset Cricket Club.

Zebras haven?t had much to shout about this season, having failed to advance from the Martonmere Cup group phase, missing out on Dudley Eve Champions Cup qualification and yet to make their presence felt in the top tier.

But a win tonight over Hornets would see Zebras join Village in the March 12 final at the National Sports Centre.

Mark Wade?s Zebras defeated inaugural winners Village 3-2 in the 2002 Friendship final at the Sports Centre but lost in last season?s final against Devonshire Cougars in extra time.

To date Zebras hold the record for the most wins (nine) in the 40 year-old competition followed by Somerset Trojans (eight), Village (six) and Dandy Town (four).

Hornets thrashed Zebras 4-1 at St.John?s Field the last time these two clubs met in November.

Tonight?s Friendship Trophy clash will be preceded by the First Division Shield semi-final involving Dudley Eve Cup champions Wolves and X Roads.

Wolves, led by scoring sensation Vince Minors, are gunning for a fifth Shield title overall and first since 1997-98, while their opponents are bidding for a first appearance in a final.

Local football action continues at Somerset Cricket Club tomorrow night where Trojans can effectively hammer the final nail in Ireland Rangers? relegation coffin as well as lift their own title hopes.
