9-under par! Pearman breaks Riddell's Bay unofficial record with 'casual' 61

Unofficial record: Dwayne Pearman

Veteran pro Dwayne Pearman set a new 'unofficial' course record at Riddell's Bay, firing a nine-under-par 61 during a "casual" round of golf.

The multiple Bermuda Open and Belmont Invitational winner blitzed the 5,388-yard Warwick layout, rolling in nine birdies en route to bettering the previous 'unofficial' best of 62, set by Riddell's Bay pro Scott Roy, by a single stroke.

Pearman birdied six of the opening nine holes to make the turn at nine-under-par and kept up his relentless assault on the course record by draining birdie putts at ten, 13 and 18.

Had it not been for a few missed makeable putts, Pearman's round might've made absolute mincemeat of the course.

"I missed about four or five makeable putts inside ten feet coming in," he said.

Pearman squandered birdie attempts at 11, 12, 14, 16 and 17 and lipped out chipping for birdie from the fringe of the green at 15.

"You're never going to make them all and even though it was casual golf I thought it was still a good round," he said.

Thursday's record-breaking round provided Pearman with some much needed momentum ahead of a season in which he hopes to qualify for the more lucrative Canadian Tour.

"I've been working on my game and practising. I'm going to try and work on my short game," he said.

Pearman has also put more emphasis on his swing recently working closely with Belmont Hills pro Darron Swan in front of the camera.

"That has really helped my game. Darron took video footage of my swing and I seem to be hitting the ball much better these days," the Southampton resident said. "Hopefully this will help me to go on to bigger and better things."
