BCB asks for ideas

Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) second vice-president Allen Richardson is determined to hit the ground running in his new appointment as chairman of the Board's newly formed technical committee.

Richardson now heads up an experienced team — consisting of national coach Gus Logie, former national team skippers Arnold Manders and Clay Smith, assistant national coach Herbie Bascome, top umpire Roger Dill and current national team skipper Irving Romaine — that will act as an expert consultant on all cricket matters directly to local cricket's governing body.

"The Board's technical committee will discuss and consult on any cricket playing matters and formulate recommendations to the Executive Committee," Richardson explained.

On Saturday the Board's technical committee will stage a cricket forum at Devonshire Recreation Club (10 a.m.) in what Richardson hopes will be the first step towards bringing the Island's divided cricket fraternity together. "The committee is hosting an open forum to investigate ways and means to improve all aspects of cricket in Bermuda such as players, grounds, umpires and various formats," Richardson said.

"The forum will give the cricketing fraternity an opportunity to share their ideas and concerns in reference to cricket. The technical committee will then begin a process of prioritising concerns and ideas and set recommendations before the Board for implementation to assist its efforts in improving the overall game."

Richardson said Saturday's forum will provide all of the Island's cricket critics with an ideal environment to voice any concerns in a more constructive manner.

"Far too many times we have the so-called cricket experts sitting on the sidelines making all sorts of suggestions on how things should be done, but not necessarily in a constructive manner," he added.

"Therefore, the Board is appealing and encouraging all persons with cricket at heart to come out on Saturday at Devonshire Rec. and be a part of this open forum in a positive manner to take our sport to new heights."
