Defending champions Devonshire Cougars kept their title challenge on track with a convincing victory over Somerset Trojans at the Rec. last night.

A brace by Raymond Beach and a strike from Lamont Brangman sunk Trojans whose threat of relegation is showing no signs of abating.

Brangman opened the scoring on 18 minutes, tapping home Domico Coddington's cross after the winger had mugged a sleepy Somerset full-back.

Trojan's only real chance of the half came from a dangerous ball from deep by Rodre Wilson, which Jelani Scott headed over.

In the first minute of the second-period the Big Cats doubled their lead through Beach who slotted home another Coddington cross. The visitors rarely troubled Cougars back-line and looked bereft of both fight and spirit.

It was no surprise when Beach put the game out of slight with a left-foot volley from a left-wing cross on 69-minutes.

Cougars coach Shawn Smith said: "It was good to get the win and I thought we played better in the second-half. It was a good team performance and puts us level on points with PHC, although we've played a game more. This victory will keep up the pressure on them.

"The return to fitness of Kwame (Steede) and Domico (Coddington) is also a boost for us."
