Bermuda spared bottom spot in rankings
Bermuda narrowly avoided slipping to bottom of the International Cricket Council’s Associate rankings yesterday.
With Gus Logie’s charges currently in Trinidad preparing for the upcoming World Cricket League tournament, Scotland, Kenya and Canada are playing a separate tri-series competition in Nairobi.
The fifth-placed Canadians — bolstered by the inclusion of captain Jon Davison and former West Indies all-rounder Anderson Cummins — needed to beat Scotland yesterday to go above Bermuda in the five-team table.
But after Canade scored an imposing 292 for five off their full 50 overs, the Scots pulled off a stunning victory by reaching the target for the loss of eight wickets and with only one ball to spare.
Kenya beat Scotland on Tuesday by a whopping 192 runs in the opening game of the tri-series.
Ireland are now ranked number one of the non-Test nations, followed by Scotland, the Netherlands, Bermuda and then Canada.
The ranking system was introduced by the world governing body in the aftermath of the ICC Trophy in the summer of 2005, when the top five finishers were all granted spots at the 2007 World Cup and full One-Day International status.
