BFA confirm talks with Barbados for Cup warm-up
Bermuda's senior national football team will see action next week at the National Sports Centre (NSC) - with Barbados the likely opponents.
But as of yesterday it remained unclear who they would play with Bermuda Football Association (BFA) president Larry Mussenden saying: "We are in the process of selling some details with two particular teams and when we have that sorted out in the next day or two then we should be able to announce it."
Several senior national team sources said they believed that Bermuda were scheduled to play two matches against Caribbean Football Union (CFU) rivals Barbados next Wednesday and Friday at the NSC.
Mussenden did confirm that Barbados were one of two teams the BFA were currently in discussions with as was reported last week in The Royal Gazette.
And when contacted yesterday, a Barbados Football Association spokesperson said: "Right now our secretary is dealing with that and as soon as we get information, there will be a press release."
The 'Bajan Pride' went undefeated on their previous tour of the Island in late 2003 and drew 1-1 in their last meeting with Bermuda in the 2006 Digicel Cup in Barbados.
Meanwhile, it's understood that arrangements are being made for the national team to travel to Miami for a mini-training camp prior to the Island's World Cup qualifying second leg match against Cayman Islands on March 30 in the Caribbean.
Bermuda are currently ranked 147th in the world and recently suffered successive defeats at the hands of Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit New England Revolution at the NSC.
Barbados, ranked 133 in the world, edged Antigua and Barbuda 3-2 last weekend and drew 1-1 against Dominica in the first leg of their 2010 World Cup qualifier.
Bermuda drew 1-1 with the Caymans in the first leg of their World Cup qualifier at the NSC last month.
