Bopara ruled out of England squad
LONDON (AP) — England allrounder Ravi Bopara will miss this month's Twenty20 World Cup after breaking and dislocating his right thumb in a one-day match against India.
Bopara will also miss the last two one-day internationals of the seven-match series against India because of the injury he sustained in Sunday's 38-run loss.
Bopara, who was one of the few players to emerge with credit from England's disappointing performance at this year's one-day World Cup, was hurt after bowling the first ball of his second over at Headingley when he fielded a shot back at him from Gautam Gambhir.
Bopara managed to bat in England's reply but hit just 11 before he was caught and bowled by Ramesh Powar as India trimmed England's lead to 3-2.
England called up Sussex allrounder Luke Wright to their one-day squad on Monday because of injuries to Bopara, Andrew Flintoff and Chris Tremlett.
Flintoff sat out Sunday's loss because of a reccurrence of a problem with his left ankle, while Tremlett will miss Wednesday's sixth match at The Oval because of a right foot injury, although he may return for Saturday's final game at Lord's.
Ryan Sidebottom, who has yet to play in the series because of a side strain, rejoined the squad and could play at The Oval.
