Broadley and Thompson have restored players' confidence
I'm starting to feel very encouraged about Bermuda's World Cup qualifying campaign.
Finally it seems as though Bermuda Football Association (BFA) are starting to get their act together. Since Derek Broadley (technical director) and Kenny Thompson (assistant coach) joined the national team set-up I've noticed a big improvement in the way things are run.
Derek's had a big impact and you can tell he eats, sleeps and breathes football. Kenny's the same ¿ he's a real student of the game and I think those two really enjoy working together.
I probably speak for the entire squad when I say that I feel a lot more confident about the whole set-up now, and at last we've got a proper schedule of warm-up matches in place.
So many times in the past we've been ill prepared for crucial games and that was so frustrating. It felt like we were being thrown into a lion's den!
But with the players fresh from the UK training trip, where they played Chelsea reserves, and with two matches against Barbados on the way I think we have reasons to be optimistic.
Actually I was a little bothered by the comments the Barbados coach made during his recent interview with The Royal Gazette. He said that he didn't think Bermuda would be pushovers.
That wound me up a little bit because in our own 'backyard' I back us to be the favourites against Barbados. These are two games we should be looking to win ¿ no doubt.
Barbados should provide excellent preparation for upcoming matches against Trinidad and Tobabgo and I really think we can be competitive against them, although we will be underdogs.
My team New England Revolution had a disappointing result last weekend against Colorado Rapids (3-0). We've lost to them twice this season now and to be honest they've been the better side.
Inconsistency has been our problem this campaign and we must stop conceding so many soft goals. We defended poorly and got punished and didn't really create much at the other end. I came off on the hour mark, although I didn't believe I was playing any worse then the rest of the guys. But we're a very good team and we will bounce back from this recent defeat.
We travel to Chivas USA on Sunday and that will be another tough game.
We're still yet to post successive victories this season and in my opinion we've really missed Taylor Twellman who's been out injured. Taylor's one of the best, if not the best, striker in the MLS and it shouldn't be long before he makes a return.
Taylor's one of those players who could easily play at a higher level. I believe Preston North End, from the English Championship, tried to sign him in the summer but the MLS blocked it.
I think that may have been a mistake by the MLS because if a player is to develop he needs to test himself on a higher stage. There's nothing wrong with the MLS being a feeder league for the 'big three'.
Even Ajax and PSV, in Holland, develop players and then sell them to teams in England, Spain and Italy.
Plus, having the best US players plying their trade in better leagues will only benefit the national team.
I'm sure Taylor's time will come again and I've no doubt he would be a success.
Talking of which, I learned this week that my old Revs team-mate Clint Dempsey has signed a new contract with Premiership outfit Fulham.
You could always tell that Clint had something a bit extra about him and I'm delighted to see that things are working out for him in the top league in the world.
