<Bz25>Cann blasts century in rained-out practice match

Lionel Cann scored a century in vain as Bermuda’s opening practice match in Trinidad against Wanderers CC was washed out yesterday.

Cann, promoted up the order after the match was reduced to 35 overs, repaid coach Gus Logie for the favour by blasting an unbeaten 109.

Janeiro Tucker was also unbeaten on 27 when rain forced umpires to abandoned the match with Bermuda on 154 for two after 19 overs.

There were no further details on the match at press time last night.

Bermuda departed for the Caribbean on Monday to begin preparations for the World Cricket League Division One Tournament to be held in Kenya later this month.

Yesterday was Cann’s second century wearing a Bermuda jersey and first since last August when he smashed a then record 139 off 61 balls against Argentina in the Americas Championships in Ontario, Canada.

Bermuda today face a Clarke Road United team they have yet to beat in two attempts.
