<Bz27>Champions crowned at Elbow

Andrew Bray continued his utter dominance of local tennis yesterday when he claimed the inaugural Elbow Beach Open by destroying Bajan Louis Villarroel without conceding a game.

The reigning Grand Slam champion was in irresistible form throughout the short encounter, pounding his hapless opponent into submission with his powerful, all-court game.

The 30-year-old Bray will be attempting to become the first player in the Island’s history to win back-to-back Grand Slams this season, as well claiming more medals at this summer’s Small Island Games in Rhodes. In the Ladies final, meanwhile, it was another young player from England who stole the show, with lawyer Leonie MacLoughlin disposing of the challenge of Jo Tucker with consummate ease, winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.
