Championship title race to go right down to the wire

Player/coach Meshach Wade was on target for Hamilton Parish in the First Division at the weekend.<V>

One of the closest races for the First Division championship in recent memory will now go right down to the wire with league and promotion honours still up for grabs.

Young Men's Social Club 0

Hamilton Parish 4

Hot Peppers thumped YMSC at St.John's Field on Sunday to regain pole position in the standings.

Jamie Smith led the way with a brace while player/coach Meshach Wade and Kaiya Darrell rounded off the rout that catapulted Parish to the summit.

The First Division Dudley Eve champions currently have 38 points and will meet fellow promotion hopefuls X Roads at Garrison Field in their season finale.

St.David's 1

Southampton Rangers 1

At Lords second-placed St.David's did their promotion hopes no favours after being held to a stalemate against third-placed Rangers.

Rangers took the lead early in the second-half through Khalil Symonds' lob from a quick counter-attack before the home team added parity to the score thanks to a schoolboy blunder by Southampton custodian Gerald Simons.

Simons handled the ball outside the box and from the resulting free-kick Islanders' Aaron Crockwell scrambled the ball across the line.

St.David's now face nearby rivals St.George's Colts in their final match of the season while Rangers meet Social Club in their remaining league fixture.

Rangers are also anxiously awaiting Bermuda Football Association's (BFA) ruling on their scheduled March 7 league match with Prospect United, which was abandoned after the latter failed to show up.

X Roads 5

Paget Lions 0

X Roads kept their own promotion aspirations alive thanks to a demolition of whipping boys Paget Lions at Garrison Field. Khomani Talbot netted a hat-trick while Mohammed Boukloufi and Akil Trott were also on target.

Prospect 1

St.George's 2

At Police Field, home side Prospect slumped to their 12th league defeat of the season courtesy of a loss to visiting St.George's Colts.

Damon Darrell scored a brace to lead Colts to their tenth league win of the season while former national team player Clifford Roberts netted Prospect's consolation.

All First Division clubs are reminded to email their match reports to sport@royalgazette.bm every Monday.
