The sole remaining Premier Division Dudley Eve spot will finally be decided among three teams tomorrow as the halfway stage of the season beckons.
North Village host PHC Zebras at Bernard Park tomorrow in a match that will ultimately determine which team eventually joins Devonshire Cougars, Boulevard and Somerset Trojans in the festive competition which kicks off on December 19.
Dandy Town, who have already completed their quota of matches for the first half of the season, are the only other team still in with a slim chance of qualifying for the popular Dudley Eve tournament named in memory of the late Bermuda Football Association (BFA) stalwart.
Village only need to take a point from their match with Zebras tomorrow to qualify, while for PHC to advance they would have to beat the Reds by double digits to pip both Hornets and their hosts for the last Dudley Eve spot on goal-difference.
Both Village and Town currently have nine points and a goal difference of plus five while Zebras have six points with an inferior goal-difference of minus six.
Only a week ago Town's Dudley Eve chances seemed bleak. But Village's loss to Boulevard in midweek and their 3-3 draw last Sunday against Paget has given Hornets a glimmer ray of hope.
In the two remaining Premier Division matches slated for tomorrow, Devonshire Cougars take on Trojans at the Den while league leaders Boulevard are away to St.David's at Lords.
With Dudley Eve places having already been settled in the First Division, it should be business as usual for the promotion chasing teams who all find themselves playing away from home tomorrow.
League leaders Ireland Rangers travel the length of the Island to take on X Roads at Garrison Field, second placed Devonshire Colts lock horns with Somerset Eagles at White Hill Field, while third placed Wolves take on St.George's Colts at Wellington Oval.
Elsewhere, fast improving Southampton Rangers welcome Hamilton Parish to Southampton Oval and Social Club host Prospect United at Bernard Park.
* It was officially confirmed yesterday that New England Revolution will jet into the Island in mid February for an eight-day pre-season tour.
The top Major League Soccer club have made Bermuda their number one winter pre-season training destination for the past two years.
And that trend will now continue for at least another year when the Revs touch down in Bermuda the week of February 16, 2007.
"I can confirm that the Revs will arrive in Bermuda the week of February 16 for an eight -day tour," a New England spokesperson told The Royal Gazette yesterday.
It is understood local promoters SetPlay are currently in discussions with New England officials over final tour details which are expected to be made public in the near future.
Last month saw the Revs became the second MLS franchise behind the Los Angeles Galaxy to lose three MLS Cup Finals.
The Eastern Conference side lost against the Houston Dynamo on penalties, with Revs' Bermudian striker Khano Smith having a hand in his team's goal in the second period of extra time.
Smith was recruited by Revs manager — Liverpool legend Steve Nicol — during the MLS side's first tour to the Island in 2005.
