Cougars' Beach looks to extend scoring run

Devonshire Cougars striker Raymond (Packy) Beach could prove a handful for Somerset Trojans who take on the Big Cats in tonight's Premier Division clash at the Den.

Beach has seemingly broke free of a scoring slump and has hit the target four times in his team's last two outings, albeit against minnows Ireland Rangers.

With the departure two seasons ago of trusty sidekick Heys Wolfe, Beach has struggled to find the Midas touch that once sent fear down the spines of opposing defenders.

The 2002-03 Premier Division MVP has also grappled with a hamstring injury this season but seems to have now shaken off the effects and is prepared to lead his team's attack in the absence of injured skipper Kwame Steede (ankle).

Cougars are fresh off back-to-back wins over Rangers in the FA Cup and Friendship Trophy and on current form should easily brush aside a Trojans side that is now flirting with relegation.

Trojans have only one league win to their credit and remain anchored in the red zone four points behind sixth-placed Boulevard.

In contrast, defending league champions Cougars are only three-points adrift of league league leaders PHC Zebras, with their hopes of repeat league success very much alive.

Traditionally the Den hasn't proven happy hunting ground for Trojans. However, Cougars cannot afford to take tonight's opponents lightly as it wasn't too long ago that Trojans thumped six past the Big Cats in their own back yard, a stunning result Somerset coach Dennis Brown might want to use to try and lift morale in the camp.

Meanwhile, football action will also take place tonight at the nearby National Sports Centre (NSC) that will play host to Bermuda School Sports Federation (BSSF) All Star Matches.

Last year saw the West lift the boys primary and middle school titles and narrowly miss out on a clean sweep when they lost 5-4 on penalties to the East in the senior All Star contest at a windswept NSC.

The West also walked away with the senior girls All Star title after outscoring their eastern counterparts 6-3 in an enthralling match.
