Defying the odds one more time

Fun in training: New York Giants defensive end Michael Strahan (92) laughs as he talks with linebacker, Bermuda's Antonio Pierce during NFL football practice last Saturday in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Antonio Pierce has urged New York Giants to "capture the moment" when they lock horns with New England Patriots as the countdown to Super Bowl Sunday begins.

The Giants will be heavy underdogs in the showpiece with Pats already being talked about as the greatest team in NFL history, after going 18-0 this season.

But Pierce is taking heart from Giants narrow 38-35 defeat in Week 17 and is determined not to leave Arizona without a winner's ring.

"Capture the moment," Pierce told the New York Daily News.

"Don't let it slip away. I've been in situations several times personally and team-wise where I felt like things slipped through my fingertips. And I've talked to (Michael) Strahan and the guys that were there in 2000. You don't want to let this opportunity slip away.

"Everybody expected us to go out there and get blown out of the water," Pierce said of Giants last meeting with Pats.

"They expected the same thing they expect in the Super Bowl, for them to come out here and beat us by 10-12 points.

"There are probably 12-15 teams in the NFC that thought they should be in the position that we're in," added the Bermudian linebacker.

"The Cowboys, the Packers, the Bucs. But they're not here. Only the New York Giants are standing here.

"Now we're going into a game where everybody wants to talk about the Patriots. Well, I'm sorry.

"It's about the Giants. That's what we're focused on - the New York Giants."
