Dillas makes his mark in US

Jarryd Dillas' game has come on in leaps and bounds during his senior year at the University of Rhodes.

Now the 22-year-old Bermudian golfer intends to take it further and leave his mark on the US college scene before he graduates next year.

"My ball striking has been consistent but I definitely need to work more on my putting. I'm hitting around 75 percent of my greens in regulation but averaging almost 35 putts per round, which is pathetic," Dillas acknowledged.

The top amateur is fresh off a superb fall season on the US college circuit, a season highlighted by a third place individual finish after carding identical rounds of 74 at the NEIGA Championships in a field of more than 200 competitors.

Dillas completed the fall season as his school's third-ranked player, with a stroke average of 75.3, to lend further proof that his career is pointed in the right direction.

"Overall, I would describe the fall season as a step in the right direction. It was good to return to competition after some poor performances last season and throughout the summer. I've just tried to do a better job at eliminating the big numbers and blow up rounds," he said.

Dillas now intends to polish his game during the winter months in hopes of picking up where he left off when the spring season commences in San Antonio, Texas at the Road Runner Invitational next February.

And he is determined to leave no stone unturned in pursuit of excellence.

"My plans for the winter break include daily gym sessions and weekly meetings with a sports psychologist," Dillas explained. "I'm looking to the spring season as an opportunity to build on my results over these past few months." Dillas also hopes to finish off his senior year at Rhodes with a bang.

"It's my senior year and so I'd like to go out on a high note and hopefully earn myself a few invites to play in some amateur tournaments here in the US over the summer," he said.
