Donawa finishes 107th in New York Marathon
Jay Donawa finished an impressive 107th overall in Sunday's New York Marathon in the Bermudian's first competitive attempt at the 26.2-mile distance.
Donawa clocked two hours, 39 minutes and 56 seconds and was the 100th male to finish in a race featuring more than 39,000 starters.
Also running the 'five-boroughs race' was fellow Bermudian Terrance Armstrong, who came in nearly four minutes behind his old school friend and frequent Bermuda Marathon Derby rival.
Armstrong was four minutes ahead of Donawa at the half-marathon mark, completing the first 13.1 miles in 1:14:09. Only in the last few miles did Donawa forge ahead.
Other Bermudians to clock under three hours were Ricky Sousa (2:56:43) and 49-year-old Sylvester Jean-Pierre (2:58:20).
Geoffrey Blee ran 3:09:10 to finish ahead of Bermuda veterans Mauel Lopes (3:10:30) and Calvin Steede (3:16:56).
