Double delight as Lady Cougars bite back
Lady Cougars 3
Prospect 1
Lady Cougars showed their character to come back from a goal down to lift the Women's Charity Cup on Saturday, scoring three times in the second-half.
Prospect made a perfect start when Stacey Babb gave her side the lead in the sixth minute, heading home from close range.
It took until the 73rd minute for Cougars to equalise through Juanita Smith who slipped the ball under an advancing Prospect goalkeeper Rhoda Jones. Two minutes later Cougars were ahead when Tamisha Darrell beat Jones to a cross to head home.
They then secured victory from a direct free kick taken by Shabena Crockwell.
Cougars coach Paulos said he hoped the Charity Cup victory would be stepping stone to greater things this season for the defending champions.
"I'm very proud of my players, especially the way they came back in the second half.
"I think our pride kicked in and we turned out to be the deserved winners.
"This is a young team with a lot of new players and it will take a while for us to blend. But hopefully this result will be a stepping stone for us."
Paulos also heaped praise on keeper Tershae Webb who pulled off a series of fine saves.
"She is a young keeper who came in when our experienced goalie was injured at the end of last season. I thought she was excellent."
