Duffy places 43rd in Rhodes
Teenage triathlete Flora Duffy finished the penultimate race of her turbulent season in 43rd position at the Rhodes BG World Cup.
It is a far cry from her season-opening fifth-place finish in Lisbon, but Duffy, by her own admission, is well-nigh 'going through the motions', with one eye already focussing on next year.
It's a year which features the 2008 Beijing Olympics with Duffy only still continuing to compete so to increase her qualification points, which currently have her on course for China.
The 19-year-old recorded a time of 2:11:08 in Sunday's race, ahead of her final World Cup outing in Cancun, Mexico, on November 4.
Since her career best finish in Lisbon back in May, Paget-born Duffy has endured a miserable time failing to finish the Madrid World Cup BG and coming last in the Salford World Cup BG.
Unable to repeat her scintillating form of her debut campaign, it's believed over-training and travelling as well as study stress have been contributory factors behind her disjointed displays.
But she did help her French professional team Poissy to their national championship earlier this month with a 27th-place finish at the La Baule Triathlon.
It is understood the top 55 female triathletes qualify for an Olympic berth with Duffy, despite her 'annus horribilis' still ranked 45th. With each country allocated a maximum of three places, Duffy's rank will climb further due to the high number of Australian and American athletes ahead of her.
