Eagles' promotion hopes alive after Thompson hat-trick
Social Club 2
Somerset Eagles 3
Kenny Thompson yesterday showed some of his old magic when he scored a hat-trick to lead Eagles to victory over Social Club at Bernard Park, enabling the West Enders to remain in contention for promotion in the First Division.
The veteran player-coach, who was the busiest player on the pitch, seemed to be out to prove a point or perhaps a couple of points - namely that Eagles were going to fight until the bitter end for promotion and also that he was still capable of competing against the younger players in the game.
Thompson's three strikes gave his team a 3-0 lead after 53 minutes with the first two coming after 12 and 19 minutes, giving them a 2-0 lead at the interval.
Nathan Simons pulled one back for Social after 59 minutes and an own goal by defender Tyrone Fubler pulled them closer, but the home side fell short of snatching a deserved draw as Eagles' defence held firm.
Hamilton Parish 6 BAA 1
Kaiya Darrell hit a hat-trick to keep the Parish's promotion hopes alive in this clash at Lord's in a contest that saw BAA goalkeeper John Doran carried away by ambulance near the end after sustaining a neck injury.
Always the fitter, faster and more creative team, Parish never looked like faltering and took a commanding 4-0 lead before the interval on goals by Darrell (all three) and Leon Raynor.
An own goal by Calvin Hansey made it 4-1 but further strikes by Romone Smith and Jamie Smith led Parish to the convincing victory.
Prospect 0 St. David's 3
In a game that saw all goals scored in the opening half, visiting St. David's coasted to victory over the home side with Angelo Cannonier scoring twice.
St. David's got on top early and gave the home side no time to settle down with early strikes. Also scoring was Aaron Crockwell.
Prospect played with more determination and purpose in the second half and their composed defence prevented St. David's from converting any further goals.
Prospect were unlucky themselves when Andrew Jackson broke through but the speedy forward muffed his chance, putting his shot wide of the advancing goalkeeper and wide of the upright.
The victory saw St. David's stay in the hunt for promotion.
