Entries now open for Ed Sherlock five mile road race
Only a week-and-a-half remains before the 15th Annual Ed Sherlock Five Mile Road Race and organisers are encouraging participants to pick up their entry forms for the event at the Southampton Rangers clubhouse.
Last year winner Lamont Marshall sliced almost three minutes from the course record when he ran a time of 25 minutes, 57 seconds. But with a number of fresh names on the running scene the possibility of a new challenger taking the title - and maybe the record - is high.
The 2007 women's champion was two-times May 24 winner Dawn Richardson, who clocked 32.51.
Swan's Running Club, in conjunction with Southampton Rangers Sports Club, puts on the event, which also has a walkers' race and a shorter juniors' race for those aged eight to 15.
The first race to start on February 24 will be the walkers at 8.30 a.m. followed by the juniors at 8.45 a.m. and then the main five mile race 15 minutes later.
The main race starts from the Southampton Rangers clubhouse and turns down Camp Road and Camp Hill to Middle Road, proceeds to Barnes Corner and then turns back onto South Road to finish at the sports club.
Entry forms are available at Sportseller, International Sports Shop, Sports 'R' Us and Southampton Rangers Sports Club.
