Equestrians aim for Games
Two of the Island’s top equestrians recently qualified for the Pan-Am Games this July, and there are three more going all out to join them in Rio de Janeiro.
Jillian Terceira and Patrick Nesbitt have both booked their places and will represent Bermuda in dressage, eventing and show jumping while show jumper Tim Collins — a former Olympian — sister and dressage rider Annabelle Collins as well as Christopher Taylor will be attempting to meet the qualifying standard over the next few weeks and months.
Bermuda Equestrian Federation have made it clear that the cost of sending local riders to Brazil will be extremely high — close to $50,000 according to conservative estimates.
And they are working in conjunction with Bermuda Olympic Association to raise the necessary money for a full team to make the journey south, together with their favoured horses.
Those with an interest in making a donation to the cause are asked to go to the sponsorship page on the BEF’s website at www.bef.bm.
Elsewhere, Bermuda Horse and Pony Association’s Jumper Series leaps into action tomorrow at the Equestrian Centre on Vesey Street.
The competition, which is against the clock, begins at 9 a.m..
