Equestrians excel in local event
A team of equestrians from Bermuda came top of their group at last week's FEI World Dressage Challenge.
Competitors from Antigua, Barbados, Bermuda, Haiti, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago battled it out for honours.
Junior riders Tyler Lopes, who rode Playboy, and Ashley Gibbs, who was on Landtango, placed first and second in the Preliminary Class, while Advanced rider, Paula George, on her mount Wiriana placed top in the Advanced Class.
"Our awards were the result of very hard work on the part of our riders and coaches and the support from visiting clinicians and the Bermuda Dressage Group", said Susan Roblin, chairman of the organising committee.
Bermuda's riders participated in all but one competition, the Prix St. Georges.
Out of the fifteen riders who competed, five of the riders placed in the top seven in the medium class, three placed in the top seven in the elementary class, and six in the top ten in the preliminary class.
George was the lone rider from Bermuda in the advanced class, which she won.
Mike Cherry, president of Bermuda Equestrian Federation, said: "Our riders did a great job. This is a fabulous result for equestrians in Bermuda", he said. "It is a testament to our development programme, which is coming along in leaps and bounds."
