Furious coach Brown demands some character from Trojans

A still seething Dennis Brown has challenged Somerset Trojans to "show some character" when they take on high-flying PHC at Southampton Oval tomorrow.

The Trojans coach was disgusted with his under-performing players after their 4-1 capitulation against Devonshire Colts, which sparked a small group of irate supporters to gather outside the home dressing room after last weekend's defeat.

But no one was more ashamed of Trojans than Brown who has not been surprised by his team's miserable start to the season, blaming a lack of commitment during their pre-season preparations.

"All the players know I was absolutely disgusted with their performance against Devonshire Colts," said a clearly disgruntled Brown. "In the second half we just lay down for them.

"They know what's expected of them against PHC and they know what's needed to get a result. PHC have made an excellent start to the season and will be a formidable opponent. We must work a lot harder and if we show the same attitude as we did against Colts the same thing will happen.

"To be honest I've not been surprised by the start we have made this season. A lot of the players did not put in the required time and effort during pre-season and this is what happens if you don't prepare properly."

Meanwhile, Brown has ruled himself out of the running for the vacant caretaker coach's position with the national team. The Bermuda Football Association (BFA) plans to unveil Kenny Thompson's successor early next week.

"I've no interest in taking charge of Bermuda at this particular time," said Brown. "I've other commitments and my calling is in nurturing Bermuda's young players as a coach with the under-13s. That's where my future lies."

This weekend Premier Division table-toppers North Village take on in-form Boulevard at Bernard Park; Dandy Town, who suffered a 4-1 defeat against Cougars in midweek, play basement-dwellers Ireland Rangers at St. John's, while Cougars lock horns with Colts in the Devonshire derby at Police Field. All matches kick-off at 3 p.m.
