<Bz28>Harness racing tomorrow

The Driving Horse and Pony Club will run the first qualifying leg of the Best Three Series of racing at the National Equestrian Centre, located on Vesey Street in Devonshire tomorrow.

The Best Three Stakes races consists of three separate classes, the first being three year olds, which has six ponies entered. There are 12 entries in the four and five year olds category

Thee final group is called the aged class which consists of ponies six years and older, in which 13 ponies are entered.

The Best Three series has a different format than the traditional Boxing Day Stakes races and the Champion of Champion Stakes races in which ponies advance into the final dashes based on the fastest times in the qualifiying heats.

The Best Three is raced over a series of three race days, which consists of six qualifying heats. Instead of racing for the fastest times each pony races for points, first place earns one point, second place earns two points and so on. The four ponies finishing the six qualifying heats with the least amount of points then qualify for the finals.

The finals are raced over two heats, with the pony with the least amount of points being the overall winner. In the case of a tie the pony coming into the finals with the least amount of points automatically becomes the winner.

This will be the fourth year the Best Three Stakes Race has been run thanks to the continued support of BEST Shipping, Pack It All, Joe Vieira Trucking and Friendly Forwarding Ltd.

Everyone is welcome and the races start at 12 noon. Food and full rest room facilities are available.
