Hearing scheduled over Cann's verbal clash

Lionel Cann: Conflict.

Intercontinental Cup match officials have scheduled a special hearing to investigate a potentially nasty incident involving Bermuda's Lionel Cann and Holland's Edgar Schiferli that unravelled at the VRA Cricket Club yesterday.

The incident occurred in the 29th over while batsman Cann was facing the Dutch all-rounder from the northern end of the ground.

Schiferli is alleged to have made an inflammatory remark to Cann that prompted a verbal retaliation from the batsman and resulted with both players being separated by team-mates, the umpires convening in the middle and play being held up for several minutes before cooler heads eventually prevailed.

"It was a little conflict between two players that were arguing or so. But we really can't speak on it at this particular time because there is going to be a hearing either today or tomorrow evening," a Bermuda team official told The Royal Gazette after the match.

"The umpires have scheduled a hearing for the behaviour of the Holland player (Schiferli) and the retaliation of the Bermuda player (Cann). And so we will have to wait and see what happens, and then go from there."

If found guilty of bringing the game into disrepute both players could be deducted half of their match earnings and/or banned for two matches for the level two offence, according to the ICC's strict code of conduct for players and officials.
