Hemp record broken
David Hemp’s Intercontinental Cup record has lasted just two weeks following another devastating display of batting by Holland’s Ryan ten Doeschate in the same competition.
Glamorgan skipper Hemp smashed an unbeaten 247 against the Dutch in Pretoria, South Africa, in a match which predictably fizzled out to a draw.
The Bermuda player’s huge knock eclipsed the previous highest score in the competition by Kenya’s Steve Tikolo, but on Wednesday ten Doeschate, who plays for Essex in the English County Championships and presented Bermuda with plenty of problems as both a batsman and bowler during the recently-concluded African tour, set a new mark.
The Dutchman hammered an unbeaten 259 in the four-day match at Sinnoville just outside Pretoria, after he had already helped dismiss Canada for 103 in 36.2 overs with stunning figures of six for 20.
Ten Doeschate faced 314 balls, hitting 28 fours and five sixes as Holland replied with 408 all out. He was dropped when on 94.
