Hogges have got what it takes to be successful
I'M predicting big things for Bermuda Hogges this season and I'll definitely be exchanging a few text messages with the likes of Mingy (Damon Ming) tonight to find out how they get on against Chartlotte Eagles.
The Hogges have made some quality signings this summer and I don't believe a mid-table finish is beyond them. You never know, if they have a really good run they could even make the play-offs.
Ok, they finished bottom last year but the only way is up for those guys. I'm certain they will make progress this season and I've noticed how much some of the Hogges national team players have improved.
John Barry Nusum is a tremendous capture for them and will have no problem scorings goals at that level. John has been a success everywhere he's played and his extra experience and know-how will be a massive boost for them.
Another player I'm tipping for big things this season is young Keishen Bean. The guy's got a lot of potential and has really impressed me so far during the national team's World Cup campaign - he should have no problem stepping up to the USL-2.
Keishen's comfortable playing in a number of positions and will give the Hogges' coaches options throughout the season. Then there's Aljame Zuill who's an experienced striker in the domestic league. He'll also be an asset.
I'm sure the Bermuda public will get behind the Hogges this season and come out in force to support them. I'll certainly be following their fortunes closely and getting behind them.
I've got to congratulate Bermuda Football Association for arranging the national team's tour to the UK next week. They've done well to pull that off, especially the match against Chelsea reserves.
It should be a massive game for us and is definitely one I'm hoping to be part of. I know the BFA have applied for the Revs to release me. It's not an official international so they're not obliged to let me go, but we haven't got a game that week so . . .
You never know Chelsea may even field a big name, which would be great for us.
The MLS season may only be a few weeks old but I've already managed to get myself another top player's shirt for my collection.
At the end of our match against Kansas City Wizards I swapped jerseys with former Argentina international and Valencia striker Claudio Lopez. At the moment it's lying nicely alongside my Paulo Wanchope and Youri Djorkaeff shirts.
I only go for the big names and these guys have played in World Cups. Maybe I'll open up a sports bar one day and display them all. It would be pretty cool if I could add David Beckham's LA Galaxy jersey to my growing collection, so watch this space!
See you at the Korner flag!
