Hogges 'keeper Williams promises more training camps for Island youngsters

Shotstopper Jason Williams is keeping Bermuda's football production line flowing by grooming the stars of tomorrow as part of a coaching venture.

Last summer saw the national team keeper host a two-week training camp at Bermuda College for youngsters, aged between 11-17, to refine their skills in a professional setting.

Another training camp is planned for this year.

During the fortnight last summer, 23-year-old Williams wore many hats not only as the owner of the company behind the scheme - Aesthetic Appeal - but also as the main organiser and head coach.

Other coaches included Jason Gross, of the US, and Haribo Taylor of the UK, who both played alongside Williams at Howard University where national team boss Keith Tucker formerly coached.

The grand prize for one lucky camper was an all expenses paid trip to Madrid, Spain, to train with top European coaches and gifted players from across the globe for a month.

Selected for his outstanding skill and determination was Somerset youngster Rory Wilson, 12, from Warwick Academy, who has since secured a place in the national team's under-13 squad.

Williams, who also turns out for the Bermuda Hogges and North Village, described midfielder Wilson a well-rounded young man with a bright future ahead of him.

"I really think the sky is the limit for Rory," said Williams. "He has all the attributes to become an excellent player.

"All the campers had a wide range of skill level, experience, and ability. But the one thing they had in common though was a passion and love for the game, and a determination to improve upon their talent.

"Aesthetic Appeal hopes to do its part to contribute to the success of football in Bermuda, and to the general uplifting of youth."

As well as other business initiatives, Aesthetic Appeal plans to run a similar camp next summer focusing on promoting education and will also invite some of Bermuda's top players, past and present, to share their knowledge.

Sponsors of the camp included Correia's Construction, Christ School, Island Maintenance, Bermuda Commercial Laundry, Bermuda College, Easy Lift Rentals, TeleBermuda International, North Rock Communications, Khadine Adams, and SKB Coatings Ltd.
