Island is proud of ex-Hornet
Bermuda Football Association (BFA) president Larry Mussenden yesterday sang the praises of Bermuda's own Khano Smith.
Smith and his New England Revolution team-mates brushed aside the spirited challenge of FC Dallas in Wednesday's US Open Cup in Dallas to give coach Steve Nicol his first piece of silverware at the helm of the Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit.
"This is an extremely big achievement for both Khano and the New England Revolution and on behalf of the BFA we extend our congratulations," Mussenden said.
"People in Bermuda have watched Khano's performances, which have come into its own. And we view this achievement as a very positive message for young Bermudians aspiring to play on the big stage and continue to wish Khano and New England well moving forward."
Past Dandy Town president Cal Blankendal also heaped praise on the former Hornets striker whose rise to fame began in humble settings at St. John's Field.
"Khano has definitely helped put Bermuda on the football map and he is also a great ambassador for the Island," he said.
"It was a great pleasure having been president at Dandy Town when Khano returned to the Island to play for us.
"Khano helped take Dandy Town to great heights before moving on to the New England Revolution.
"He really took leadership of the team and we at Dandy Town are very proud of his latest achievement with New England Revolution and wish him continued success."
