Jones wins in Florida

Nick Jones produced two steady rounds of golf to capture the boys 16 to 19 title on his International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT) debut in Florida over the weekend.

The young Bermudian carded identical rounds of three-under-par 69 to finish four shots ahead.

The Grandview Preparatory student had entered the 36-hole event with high hopes of extending his rich vein of form after producing strong showings at the Doral Publix and Golf Channel Amateur Tour tournaments.

And he did just that on Sunday, matching five birdies with two bogeys along the way at the 6,700-yard, par 72 Bent Tree lay-out.

"I hit my driver very well and my putting also helped a lot," said Jones, who birdied the final two holes to go to six under for the tournament in blustery conditions. "It was pretty windy today (Sunday) which I like because I knew the other scores would be high."

Jones' has earned exemption to an American Junior Golf Tour (AJGT) event and the IJGT Championships in May.
