Junior players look to conquer Cayman

Bermuda's junior rugby teams are off to the Cayman Islands

Bermuda Rugby Football Union (BRFU) are sending an under-10s and an under-12s team to the Caribbean to take on Cayman Islands next week.

The colts will be hoping to repeat the success of Bermuda's senior side who beat Cayman 29-13 at the weekend in their World Cup qualifier.

Featuring 13 under-10s players and 17 under-12s players, the squad have been training for the past month to prepare for two days of competitive rugby.

Both teams are scheduled to play in a round robin tournament on Saturday, May 3, against Cayman select teams, before full international matches against Cayman Islands the following day.

The games will be full tackle, with contested scrums and line-outs. The under-10s will play nine-a-side, and the under-12s will play 13-a-side.

Robbie Dickinson, head coach for the under-10s team, said the younger group were particularly excited about the upcoming tour.

"The boys have shown how seriously they are taking this opportunity and are coming together as a team very well," he said.

"The under-10s league was a great success this year and I'm sure that our players will represent Bermuda proudly when they take to the field in Cayman."

The Cayman trip follows a successful tour to England last October by Bermuda's under-11s team, who placed third in a youth rugby tournament.
