Keane secures leaders Onions victory over champions Roots

MR Onions extended their lead at the top of the Commercial League with a hard fought 3-1 win over reigning champions Dandy Town Roots.

Roots had taken the lead when slack marking following a free-kick allowed Mark Trott to head home unchallenged. However Onions hit back straight away, Lester Pun scoring following good work from Colin Keane and Niall Baillie.

Baillie again did well early in the second half to allow Keane to score from close range and though Dandy Town had good chances to level the game, at the other end Keane hit the woodwork twice before making the game safe following a strong run and cross from Kenny Vevers.

Back under the stewardship of Paul Scope, Robin Hood are beginning to recover some of their old form and crushed Tuff Dogs 4-0 to move into third spot. Brian Fubler began the scoring with a screamer which went in off the bar. Steve Simons got two before Teddy Terceira notched just before the end.

Key West Rangers started with only 10 men against Valley and were happy to pick up a point in a 0-0 draw as they finished even shorter as Jahmall Mills and Roddy Lewis both picked up injuries.

BAA put some disappointing recent results behind them with a 3-0 win over strugglers Somerset Extros. Veteran striker Jim Campbell broke the deadlock after 30 minutes by shinning home in at the near post after some good work out wide by Martin Jones. Campbell upped his tally to two goals in two seasons 15 minutes into the second half with another cool finish. Extros fought gamely throughout and were still threatening but Paul Colvin wrapped up proceedings with a toe poked finish from the edge of the box.

North Village beat Lobster Pot 5-1 with Jamel Smith getting a hat-trick and Elliot Jennings and Allan Smith also netting. Torriano Trott was on target for Pot.

In the B Division Group One, Vasco went down 5-1 to Boulevard. Playing the majority of the game with nine players Vasco held out well until the half and were down 2-1 with Vasco's Andrew Bento scoring from 30 yards having seen the keeper off his line. In the second half Boulevard brought on fresh legs and ran out winners 5-1.

St. George's All-Stars made it two wins in a row with a 3-1 defeat of fellow title challengers PHC Raiders. In a tough opening half both teams fought hard but could not find the net.

In the second half Lionel Cann, playing his first game of the season, put his recent cricketing troubles behind him and scored All-Stars' first. The second goal came from the boot of veteran Kenneth Pearman who as on hand to score from close range putting the All-Stars in good position for victory. However Raiders managed to pull a goal back from an Andre Caines penalty. Stevie Dickinson wrapped up the game, scoring All-Stars' third.

Hamilton Parish beat St. David's 4-2, courtesy of two each from Irving Burgess and Corey Hill, while Justin Pitcher got a brace for the home side. St. David's player Sean Boddington and Chris Caisey of Parish were sent off in the 60th minute for fighting.

In Group Two of the B division Prospect/Fire raced to a 3-0 lead over Devonshire All-Stars by the break with Kingsley Mundy getting two and Kevin Mooney one. All-Stars sub Germano Botelho began the fight back with a neat individual goal and Gerald Bean was taken down in the box and converted his own penalty to make it 3-2 but All-Stars could not find an equaliser.

Devonshire Rec. Lions fought out a 4-4 thriller with Pest Control. Dennis Williams got a brace for the Lions while Dwayne Bean and Shawn Showers were also on target. Jamie Matthews got two for Pest Control who also scored from Michael O'Brien and Ashley Simons. Simons was later sent off for abusive language along with team-mate Shane Hollis while Preston Mallory went for violent conduct. One-man Wolves defaulted their game to visitors Dockyard Falcons.
