Kick starting fun for Island's young soccer players

David Bascome

The Island's youngest players have the opportunity to take part in Kiddy Kickers, a starter clinic that introduces young players aged four to five years old to the 'FUN-damentals' of soccer through basic soccer skills and fun drills during daily one hour training sessions.

The Kiddy Kickers programme, which caters to youth soccer players between the ages of four through to fourteen years old, will kick-off on June 30th, with four different programmes at the National Sports Centre (NSC).

The clinic will promote parental involvement by requiring that parents accompany their children throughout the entire training session. The Pro Soccer Clinic provides players between the ages of six to fourteen years old with the opportunity to build on their soccer skills, become team players on and off the soccer field and learn the importance of positive discipline from qualified coaches and experienced players.

The School of Excellence programme will again be offered to the top 10 participants between the ages of 12-14 years old from the Pro Soccer Clinic. The School of Excellence runs from 7th to 11th of July and involves classroom instruction, soccer training and work experience.

Participants will be taught by six professional soccer players and coaches from Bermuda and the United States including David Bascome, MISL professional player and Assistant Coach for Baltimore Blasts, Danny Kelly who is also an MISL professional player and Head Coach for Baltimore Blasts, Tammy Pearman, member of the US Women's National Soccer Team, Amy Morrison, Baltimore Youth Soccer Coach, Alexis Rogowsky, and Mike Williams, former professional player and pro/college scout.

"I believe that developing the talent of our Island's junior athletes is an important undertaking if we are to raise our ranking as a sporting nation," said David Bascome, President of the Bascome Pro Soccer School.

"Over the past 17 years some 3,250 participants have passed through the Bank of Bermuda Pro Soccer Clinic to hone their skills and athletic abilities. I am thankful for the Bank of Bermuda's support."
