Lambe cleared to play - BFA refuse to comment

The question whether teenaged prodigy Reggie Lambe would be granted clearance to debut for the senior national team against St. Kitts at the National Sports Centre (NSC) tonight was answered yesterday after team officials included the promising footballer in the Island's 21-man squad.

Doubts were raised over the 16-year-old Ipswich Town academy midfielder's eligibility to suit up in tonight's international friendly after it was revealed that he had been punished by Bermuda Football Association (BFA) earlier this year for an off-the-field incident that allegedly took place while representing the Island's Under-15 national team under the supervision of coaches Troy Harvey and Maurice Lowe at the Dallas Cup in Dallas.

To date the BFA have declined to speak on the matter, with technical committee chairman Mark Trott insisting yesterday "that the matter was dealt with internally". BFA president Larry Mussenden, however, was even less forthcoming as he abruptly hung up the phone when asked whether Lambe was ever suspended in the aftermath of last April's incident that's alleged to have taken place in the team's hotel.

Two of the player's Under-15 team-mates, Dante Smith and Tahj Bell, were also punished for a separate incident that occurred during the same tour, with at least one of the pair having been banned to the end of the year, placed on probabtion for the entire 2007-08 season and ordered to do community service.
