League leaders wary of Colts
PHC Zebras assistant coach Jack Castle says the Premier Division leaders will not be taking anything for granted when they travel to Police Field tomorrow to battle with fifth-placed Devonshire Colts.
"I think Colts are one of the most inconsistent teams in the league. You just never now which Colts team is going to show up on the day," Castle told The Royal Gazette.
Colts are fresh off a humbling 7-0 spanking at the hands of nearby rivals Devonshire Cougars and will look to get back on track against Zebras on home turf.
But not if Castle has any say in the matter.
"We are pumped up for this match," he declared. "Our guys are pumped up and recognise we need six points from four matches to win the league."
Zebras drew with Colts in the only meeting between the two sides this season last October in the league. But with a first league title in eight seasons within reach, Castle is looking for a better result this time around.
"We hold our destiny in our own hands and intend to keep working hard on doing the things we need to do to win the league," he said.
Elsewhere, second-placed Cougars are faced with a crunch match against third-placed North Village at Bernard Park in a contest both teams cannot afford to lose if they are to bask in league glory come season's end.
At St.John's Field hosts Dandy Town will be seeking to steer clear of the relegation zone when they take on fourth-placed Boulevard Blazers who have held their own this season with a youthful squad.
At Somerset Cricket Club, Ireland Rangers will attempt to extend their win streak to two when they take on fellow strugglers Somerset Trojans in an all-West End derby.
Rangers pulled off a stunning upset over Hornets at Malabar in their previous outing.
In the First Division, Southampton Rangers and Wolves will do battle at Southampton Oval, Hamilton Parish take on Paget at Lords and Somerset Eagles host X Roads at White Hill Field (3 p.m.).
Elsewhere, St.George's Colts away to bottom team BAA at BAA Field while Prospect United are pitted against Social Club at Police Field.
League leaders St.David's have a bye this weekend.
