Former winners Blake Marshall and Robert Vallis led the way in the men's qualifying round of the annual Bermuda Amateur Match Play Championships at Mid Ocean Club yesterday.

Both players carded rounds of three-over-par 74 with Marshall claiming medallist honours.

When the tournament enters its match play format today, Marshall will be seeded number two with last year's winner Arthur Jones, who elected not to play yesterday, the number one seed.

Anthony Mocklow and Cy Kilgore both fired rounds of 75 yesterday.

In the ladies' event, Kim Botelho (Marshall) shook off the cobwebs to shoot a superb 74 to grab medallist honours.

Visitors Deborah Jamgochian and Helen Stovell qualified as second and third seeds with Katrin Burnie fourth.
