Marshall leads Social Club to victory in table topping clash
St. David's 214
Social Club 215-8
Veteran player-coach Charlie Marshall was up to his old tricks again yesterday when he turned in another outstanding all-round performance to help Social Club brush off closest challengers St. David's by two wickets at Devonshire Rec. to solidify their position at the head of the Premier Division table.
He followed up last week's solid all-round performance with bat and ball (when he also achieved his first-ever hat-trick with a haul of three for 22 off four overs) by snatching three for 17 off 6.5 overs and scoring 33 as Social Club blitzed to their winning target of 215 in response to the creditable total posted by the visitors.
With opener Chris Foggo once again in blazing form with a crisp 77 (nine fours and a six) and Shannon Raynor chipping in with 28, Delyone Borden 18, Kameron Fox 21 not out and Chris Pitcher 16, St. David's left their opponents with a challenge total to chase after batting 46.5 overs.
Marshall, with his slow seamers, led the Social Club bowlers and was ably supported by Jaymo Durham who took two for 25 from 10 overs and two maidens while Glenn Blakeney claimed two for 49 from 10 overs with a maiden.
Social Club reached their winning target in 34 overs with Blakeney leading the charge in response with a fierce 50 (seven fours and two sixes) before running himself out.
