Marshall takes a hat-trick
Western Stars 123
Social Club 129-4
Although it was far from a championship performances Premier Division leaders Social Club managed to brush off Western Stars by six wickets at St. John's field, thanks to some fine batting by skipper Kevin Hurdle and former skipper Jahmiko Marshall.
The limited overs league leaders eventually coasted to victory after receiving a mild scare that forced these two players to dig deep and prevent any further disaster when they were hovering at 54-4 with there being some doubt about whether the team would be capable of reaching what appeared to be a modest target for victory.
However Hurdle and Marshall rose to the occasion, settling down and with an intelligent approach managed to put on 75 runs during their unbeaten partnership with Hurdle not out on 49 and Marshall undefeated on 30 when victory was reached. Social Club required 29 overs to pull off the feat.
Machai Campbell was the best bowler for the home side, finishing with two wickets for 46 off 10 overs with two maidens.
While veteran player-coach Charlie Marshall was among those not called on to bat for Social Club his spin bowling helped him to compete for match honours as he claimed his first hattrick during a long, illustrious career in the sport of cricket.
It marked the first time he had ever achieved such a feat, pulling off the three-wicket haul during his very first over and finishing with superb analysis of three for 22 off four overs. Hurdle claimed three for 32 off nine overs with a maiden while Dennis Pilgrim took two for 19 runs off 7.2 overs and one maiden.
Stars' batting proved fragile and they had to be thankful for the 24 extras added to their total, which gave Social Club a more reasonable target to chase.
But as it turned out their final total from 35.2 overs proved to be insufficient to offer a real challenge and prevent the eventual successful ending for Social Club.
Jah Millett was top bat for Stars with 36 while Machai Campbell chipped in with 21 and Wayne Campbell 15.
Southampton Rangers 230-7
St. David's 180
Reigning champions Southampton Rangers may be out of the running for league honours but the middle of the table team still proved they were formidable enough to have a say in the race by humbling second place St. David's by 50 runs at Southampton Oval.
Put in to bat by O.J.Pitcher Southampton gave a positive response with openers Keith Wainwright and Curtis Jackson putting on 82 runs to set them a firm foundation, Wainwright striking 52 and Jackson 31.
A third veteran joined in the runs with Olin Jones scoring 34 while coach Janeiro Tucker chipped in with 47.
Delyone Borden was the chief wicket taker for the eastenders claiming two for 34 off 10 overs with a maiden while Sammy Robinson collected two for 40 off 10 overs.
The visitors got a solid half century from Chris Foggo but with few others making their way into double figures they fell 50 runs short of their winning target.
Janeiro Tucker had the best bowling figures for the home team with three wickets for 25 runs off eight overs.
Flatts 101
