Pearman and Swan well placed in World Cup qualifiers

Bermuda's golf pairing of Dwayne Pearman and Kim Swan are just one position outside a World Cup berth with two rounds still remaining at the 2007 Aruba qualifiers.

Pearman and Swan are vying for a place at The Omega Hills World Cup in China in November and must finish in the top five at the qualifiers, held The Tierra del Sol Trent Spa and CC.

In yesterday's second round the pair finished with a par-71, shooting three birdies, three bogies and 12 pars, to leave them in sixth position behind leaders Italy, Ireland, Puerto Rico, Paraguay and Guatemala. Pearman and Swan shot four birdies along with 14 pars to finish the first round with four under par.

The 72-hole competition features nineteen countries hoping to make the top five to earn a spot in the World Cup, in China, from November 22 to 25.

Italy's Edoardo and Francesco Molinari caught Ireland at the top of the table, with Irish duo Gareth Maybin and Michael Hoey following their 62 of the opening round with a 73, erasing their three-stroke lead and establishing the halfway co-lead at seven-under par 135.

The Guatemalans share the third spot along with Puerto Rico and Paraguay, two strokes behind the co-leaders. Puerto Rico's Wilfredo Morales and Miguel Suárez made the top three by carding a 70, joining Italy as the only teams shooting under par on another windy day. Meanwhile, Paraguay relayed on Carlos Franco's experience to card a 71.

Sixth place belongs to Bermuda's Pearman and Swan at four-under par 138, while Venezuela's Miguel Martínez and Juan Berastegui hold the seventh spot one stroke further back.

The Bermudian pair were in joint fourth place after shooting 67 in Thursday's first round but slipped back outside the qualifying places with a 71 yesterday.

The Aruba qualifiers are conducted by the Tour de las Americas, an associate member of the International Federation of PGA Tours.

Today the third round will be played under the format of best-ball, with the teams returning to alternate shot foursomes in tomorrow's final round.
