Just when it looked as though the teams would have to settle for extra time work Paynter sent a long dribbler which bobbled through the legs of Onions' goalkeeper to save Social Club from some embarrassing extra time.
Social Club took a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes when Nathan Simons finished off sharply after receiving a pass from Clay Smith.
After 33 minutes the Commercial League side equalised when David Lawler captalised on a poor clearance by goalkeeper Sherwin Jennings and drove the ball home to send the teams into the half level.
Both teams tried hard to break the deadlock after the break but it took an error by Onions' defence to let their opponents off the hook.
