Southampton Rangers 3 Somerset Eagles 2

A ten-men Southampton Rangers overcame a late flurry from rivals Somerset Eagles before bagging three valuable points at Southampton Oval yesterday.

Rangers had Anthony Rocker sent off in the 56th minute for violent conduct seconds after Eagles had erased the deficit to one courtesy of a goal from former Somerset Trojan Roger Brangman.

Eagles tried desperately to cash in on their numerical advantage but just couldn't get the ball to drop in the net, enabling the home team to come away with maximum points from a match that could've easily gone either way.

But it had been a completely different story in the first-half as Rangers dictated the tempo and jumped out to a 3-1 lead at the half.

Rohann Simons took only three-minutes to slice open the Eagles' defence and just before the break Rangers stretched their lead with Ryan Brunson and Simons both converting.

Eagles grabbed a lifeline when player/coach Kenny Thompson came out of goal to pull one back for the visitors before Brangman cut it even closer with a goal early in the second-half.

But despite piling on the pressure and pinning their opponents down for long spells Eagles ultimately came out with the short end of the stick as Rangers held firm to the end.

BAA 0 St. David's 7

Veteran striker Otis Minors netted five goals at BAA Field to lead visiting St. David's to a lopsided win over the home team.

Dejuan Paynter and Angelo Cannonier grabbed Warriors others as the visitors enjoyed easy pickings against cellar dwellers BAA, while at White Hill Field visiting Wolves devoured Paget Lions 6-1.

Hamilton Parish 1 St. George's 1

Veteran Clay Smith came off the bench ten minutes from the end to save visiting St. George's Colts from defeat in this First Division clash at Lord's.

Brought on as a sub by coach Carlos Greaves to add some spark with his free-kicking ability, Smith answered his coach's call by blasting home the equaliser two minutes from the end.

A few minutes earlier Smith wasn't as lucky as a similar blast from a free kick was sensationally saved by the efficient Nigel Burgess in the Parish goal.

For most of the first half Parish called the tune with Romon Smith putting them ahead with a goal after 12 minutes, but this was to be their only success as St. George's defence held firm.

Parish held the better of the exchanges in the second half but sadly their finishing remained suspect.

Little did they know that St. George's had a trump card in Smith - who has seldom played this season - who came off the bench to help the eastenders snatch a point and put a dent in Parish's bid to contend for promotion.

X'Roads 3, Social Club 0

Home side X'Roads continued to keep among those challenging for promotion places with this emphatic win at Garrison field.

But it was a struggle against opponents who fought hard and could have walked away with a share of the points with a bit of luck.

Nashon Smith gave Social a 1-0 lead at the half with his goal after 22 minutes, but Social were unable to press any real advantage against a side that was determined to fight until the bitter end.

Smith eventually got a second from his physically better team after 83 minutes as Social began to fade. And the third goal came right at the end through Dennis Musson.
