Simoes for the BFA and Barnes for the Hogges!

Dear Sir,

I read with interest yesterday's newspaper regarding those candidates vying for the position of Bermuda technical director. Certainly it was gratifying to learn that a high flyer such as John Barnes has expressed an interest in the job. It is also great that the experienced Brazilian Rene Simoes wants the job.

After reading the article I have come up with a way that Bermuda can have the best of both worlds. Without doubt Simoes is a far more accomplished coach than Barnes, one need only look at his resume, though he does not possess the same celebrity status, it is coaching ability that counts here not how big a star you were as a player.

For example Arsene Wenger never rose to the same heights as Kevin Keegan as a player, but which one would you select to coach your team? I would therefore prefer to see Simoes appointed as technical director.

Now judging by his comments in yesterday's daily it is obvious that Shaun Goater favours Barnes. I believe we can have the best of both worlds. My solution would be to appoint Simoes as technical director while Goater, Lightbourne and Scope could seek financial backing to hire Barnes to coach their professional outfit the Bermuda Hogges.

As owners they would not only reap the benefit of Barnes' coaching experience but also attract significantly more interest in the Hogges on the back of Barnes' celebrity status. This would be a win-win situation for everybody!
