Sims leads team to top of net division

The 'B' team from Tuxedo Club, led by Bermuda's top pro Michael Sims, took a three-shot lead in the net division after the second round of the Goodwill Golf Tournament yesterday.

The annual event, played over four different courses - Port Royal, Mid Ocean, Tucker's Point and Belmont Hills - has attracted for than 100 foursomes.

Sims and company carded a 14-under-par at Belmont Hills yesterday to take their 36-hole total to 23-under-par.

Sims, who earlier this year lost his Nationwide Tour card, was joined by amateurs James Depiero, James Raymond and Peter Van Der Mey.

Eagles Nest, led by Craig Marseilles from Canada, moved into a tie for second place after posting a 10-under-par 61 at Mid Ocean Club to take their two-day total to 21-under.

They were joined by CC of Salt Lake 'B', captained by pro Wayne Fisher.

Ocean View are the top local club in the net division after pro Dwayne Pearman and amateurs Chris Phillips, Fred Stovell and Quinton Sherlock sr moved onto 18-under-par by carding a 13-under 57 at Tucker's Point yesterday.

In the gross division, Cyprian Keyes Golf Club and the Country Club of Salt Lake are tied on 129. Cyprian Keyes are led by pro Terry O'Hara who is joined by amateurs Dan Fulcucci, Dave Falcucci and Peter Boler. The Country Club of Salt Lake include pro Ron Branca and amateurs Neil Henderson, Dave Thomas and Chuck Culp.

One of yesterday's highlights was a hole-in-one at Tucker's Point recorded by Greg Stenzel, the Raleigh Country Club pro.

He celebrated an ace at the 210-yard par-three eleventh hole.

In the professional event, being played under the stableford system. Riddell's Bay pro Andrew Trott took the lead yesterday after accumulating 19 points at Mid Ocean to take his 36-hole total 38.

Today is a rest day with the tournament resuming tomorrow.
