Sims' team cling onto top spot
New York team Tuxedo 'B' - led by Bermuda's top golfer Micheal Sims - fired a 10-under-par 61 during yesterday's unsettled weather conditions at Mid Ocean Club to cling to a one-stroke lead over Great Lakes Tour into the net division heading into today's final round of the 55th annual Goodwill Tournament.
Former Coventry City striker Kyle Lightbourne swapped boots for a set of clubs to help overseas team Great Lakes keep pace with the leaders in the net division after his foursome carded a 12-under-par 59 also at Mid Ocean.
Ocean View, currently tied for 15th at 23-under, are the highest Bermuda-based team.
Eagles Nest, led by Canadian Craig Marseilles in a team including three locals amateurs - Anthony Rabain, San Bezant and Millard Beach - carded a four-under 66 at Tucker's Point to move into a tie for the lead in the gross division with Cyprian Keyes.
Overnight leaders Salt Lake took their foot off the gas and fell back into a tie for fourth with a one-under-par 69 at Tucker's Point.
California's Montebello top the senior gross leaderboard while Belfair Golf Club hold a two-shot lead over Montebello in the senior net division.
In the individual professional event,, PGA Tour player Ron Philo, representing Sugarbush Golf Club, currently leads the junior division after compiling a superb 21 points to take his overall stableford total to 62 - five ahead of second-placed Sam Olson from Redding CC.
Marseilles tops the senior pro division by three points over defending champion Delroy Cambridge.
The tournament, being played at four local courses - Port Royal, Belmont Hills, Mid Ocean and Tucker's Point - will conclude today, followed by a prize presentation and banquet at Fairmont Southampton.
