Social Club beat Ireland Rangers
Young Men Social Club 3
Ireland Rangers 2
Young Men Social Club conjured up one of the upsets of the season as they swept aside premier league foes Ireland Rangers to put their name in the hat for the next round of the FA Cup.
Goals by youngster Clay Darrell, Nathan Simons and substitute Hailet Matthews set the pace for the first division side who claimed the scalps of the premier league cellar dwellars.
In the opening stanza both sides knocked the ball around with real purpose, probing for an opening to exploit.
But against the run of play, it was Clay Darrell, son of cricketer Clay Smith, who opened the scoring with a scorcher in the 38th minute.
With space in front of him in the middle of the park, the youngster unleashed a shot that slowly curled back post, leaving Rangers keeper Ricardo Tucker with the dubious honour of pushing the ball into the side netting to make it 1-0.
With no changes at the half for either side, Rangers came out with vigour and determination and got their reward in 50th minute courtesy of a Yusaff Pitt strike, to level matter.
A defence-splitting through ball enabled Pitt to get goal side of his marker, and with one delicate swoop of his right boot, chipped the advancing keeper, leaving him a spectator as the ball nestled in the net.
Not to be left out of the party, substitute Hailet Matthews, who had only been on the pitch a matter of minutes, put Social Club back in front 2-1.
A tantalising cross from the right flank was met with a superb right-footed volley, that left the Rangers keeper flat-footed as the ball raced to the back post.
Tucker must have wished he was somewhere else as his weak goal kick led to Social Club's third of the night.
A poor goal kick, which barely got to the halfway line, was nodded down and with midfielder Nathan Simons aware of his surroundings, let a delightful lob go goalwards, finding Tucker off his line.
The ball to grazed the underside of the crossbar to make it 3-1.
Ireland Rangers pushed on gainfully and got another goal back through substitute Regeno Gomes, and proceeded to go in search of the elusive equaliser.
But just as it seemed they might pull the game level, the ref's whistle put an end to this thrilling encounter.
In other FA Cup games last night Key West Rangers enjoyed the biggest winning margin of the night with a 2-0 victory over BAA at Somerset CC.
Lobster Pot and Prospect United fought out a six-goal match with both teams finishing level at 3-3.
It was the same story in the Devonshire Rec clash between St. George's Colts and Boulevard Blazers with the teams unseparable at 2-2.
On Monday night Devonshire Colts thrashed Pest Control 14-0, while the match between Wolves and Southampton Rangers finished all square at 2-2, both games played at Devonshire Rec.
