Devonshire Cougars manager Shawn Smith reckons his side are well placed to challenge for the Premier Division title after he watched them beat strugglers Ireland Rangers courtesy of a Kwane Steede hat-trick at the Den yesterday.
Smith was pleased to see his charges return to goal-scoring form and they will now be looking to benefit from PHC's slip-up following their 2-0 defeat at the hands of Dandy Town at St. John's Field.
Rangers, however, can take heart from a good performance, but it looks like an immediate return to the First Division is on the cards if they do not start picking up points — and soon.
Smith said: "We were in this position last year — we have been here before and it is a bit of deja-vu, but we just have to focus on doing the necessary things.
"Our defence was tight and we are not conceding many, but, equally it was good to get a few goals after a dry run."
